Be cautious outdoors. If your ceremony is in the Sculpture Garden, the shade from trees (or clouds) may lead to darker images. Ensure your photographer is ready with supplemental lighting.
Respect the art. Any decor, lighting rigs, or installations must complement the art, not overpower it. Ask about restrictions on mounting, adhesives, or movement near exhibits.
Music portioning. If reception moves outdoors or to sculpture garden, have sound strategy so music carries without overwhelming neighboring spaces.

Control temperature surprises. Glass spaces can get warm under midday sun, or chilly in evening. Talk with your date and venue about ventilation or cooling/heat support.
Respect the gardens. Any decor or elements you bring should not damage plantings or surfaces. Check allowable decor policy with the venue well ahead of time.
Plan your photo flow. With so many available spaces, plan a path between ceremony, cocktail, and portraits that feels natural—not rushed—so you capture emotion without fatigue.

Pro Tips (From My Photographer’s Viewpoint)
Time the outdoors If your ceremony is outdoors near the pond or fountains, use golden hour to your advantage. Be mindful of shade from nearby buildings or trees.
Bridge indoor-outdoor flows. Use the patios, courtyards, and ballroom entrances to move guests and portraits with elegance.
Leverage the suites & hotel rooms. Because the hotel is part of the same property, you can capture getting-ready, details, and candid moments before the ceremony in comfort.
Clarify noise transitions. If your reception has outdoor components, have a plan to bring music or dancing inside later if needed.
Scout “photo zones” early. The paths, fountains, landscaping, and façades all provide multiple backdrops right on property, no travel needed.
Plan vendor timing. Even though it’s a campus, vendor scheduling, load-in routes, and elevator access (if any) will matter. Make sure your team knows exactly how to enter, unload, and set up.

Pro Tips (From My Photographer’s Viewpoint)
Light challenges near aquarium & exhibits. The glass, reflections, and contrast between exhibit lighting and ambient light make exposure tricky, plan for fill lighting or creative angles to avoid blown highlights or dark faces.
Use aquarium walls as dramatic backdrops. The 14,000+ gallon reef tank in the Malawi Center is iconic, great for portraits when timed after guests settle.
Scout room modularity. Rooms like Indigo/Sapphire/Imperial let you adjust scale; plan which ones you’ll use based on guest count and flow.
Mind transitions. Moving between outdoors (gardens) and indoor halls demands exposure planning; give buffer time so eyes/gear adjust.
Respect animal noise & ambiance. Some exhibits may have ambient noise or animal sounds, use that for atmospheric images, but also plan your ceremony mic/music accordingly.
Plan for flow and distance. The zoo grounds are spacious, so consider walking routes, guest movement, and how to direct people between ceremony, cocktail, and reception without fatigue.
Time your portraits. The garden, exhibits, and animal overlooks are prime at golden hour; plan slots just for these spaces.
